Hibiscus flowers are cultivated in China, Japan and the Pacific. Some species of this flower, two white-flowered hibiscuses are believed to be native to Hawaii. Dried hibiscus is edible and a great delicacy in Mexico. It is also used as a garnish predominately for desserts. The name hibiscus comes from the Greek name for the common marshmallow as this plant is in the mallow family it is very fitting.
The Egyptians use hibiscus tea to treat a fever and nowadays is a common treatment in Iran to lower blood pressure, so be warned, drinking too much hibiscus and taking blood pressure medication isn’t advised.
