Did you know?
Raspberries are a readily available fruit for many in Britain, great for a summer’s picnic and used in many flavoured drinks and sweets but did you know raspberries are made up of loads of little bead-like fruits called “drupelets” These drupelets cluster around a centre core.
Each one of these drupelets contains one seed and each raspberry can have around 100 to 120 seeds. Raspberries aren’t just red, but come in a few colours including, purple, gold and black, the sweetest being the golden raspberry. You can tell the difference between a black raspberry and a blackberry as the raspberry is hollow in the middle whilst the blackberry is filled.
Don’t pick an unripe raspberry! Unlike other fruits, they won’t ripen over time after they have been picked, so be patient and enjoy these tasty fruits when they are good and ready.
