Gunpowder Green Tea

Gunpowder tea originates from Chinese Zhejiang; it is biologically produced in a special process. The tea leaves are roasted wet, followed by the drying process where the leaves curl into tiny little balls resembling a similarity to gunpowder. The tea pearls have a higher caffeine level than most green teas due to the process in which to make the tea, the levels can be reduced if the leaves are brewed a second time around, lowering the caffeine considerably.

Brewing time: We recommend a brewing time of 3 minutes to give the tightly curled gunpowder pearls time to unravel and infuse their beautiful taste.

Gunpowder tea is believed to have originated from China in the 7^th century and was referred to as pearl tea. However, it wasn’t until the 19^th century that it got its explosive name of gunpowder tea. A British clerk decided to rename the little buds of tea as the little cured-up buds reminded him of grains of gunpowder.
