Did you know?

The story of Earl Grey tea goes like this… Charles Grey, born in 1764 was the Whig Prime minister for the UK between 1830 to 1834. This earl government abolished slavery in the British Empire and was also an architect of parliamentary reform, and the 1832 Reform Act saw major changes to electoral boundaries and the representation of major cities. He married and had a whole bunch of children, 10 boys and 6 girls…what a family!

According to the Grey family, the tea was specially blended by a Chinese mandarin for Lord Grey, to suit the water at Howick Hall, the family who lived in Northumberland, used bergamot to cover the lime in the local water. Lady Grey used it to entertain in London as a political hostess, and the tea proved so popular that she was asked if it could be sold to others.

It was enjoyed by the aristocrats and royals, but nowadays it is a staple in most tea and coffee shops for everyone to enjoy.
